Near Library is a study platform that lets students track their reading and tasks, and lets a parent they invite follow their progress. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
| What | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Email address | Sign-up and every sign-in | It is your account identifier and how we send you one-time sign-in codes. |
| Name, profile photo | If you sign in with Google | Supplied by Google so your account shows your name rather than a raw email. |
| Phone number | Only if you add it to your profile | Optional. We do not require it and do not send SMS. |
| Parent name and email | When a student invites a parent | To send the invitation and link the two accounts. |
| One-time sign-in codes | Each sign-in attempt | To verify it is you. Codes expire quickly and are single-use. |
| Study data — books, chapters, tasks, priorities, due dates, time tracked, comments | As you use the app | This is the content of the service; without it there is nothing to show you. |
| Notification subscription and browser identifier | Only if you turn on notifications | To deliver push notifications to that specific browser or device. |
| Location — latitude, longitude and accuracy | Only while you have location sharing switched on | To show your linked parent or guardian where you are studying. |
We share information only with the services needed to run the app:
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the safety of a user.
A parent can only see a student's data after the student invites them by email. A linked parent can view the student's tasks, progress and work sessions, and leave comments. A parent cannot edit or delete the student's tasks, and cannot see anything from before the link was made unless it is part of that same task history. A student can ask us to remove the link at any time using the contact address below.
Near Library is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at privacy@nearlibrary.com and we will delete the account and its data.
Go to Delete your account, enter your email address and confirm the code we send you. Your profile, study data, location history, notification subscriptions and any parent link are deleted immediately. You do not need the app installed to do this.
You can also email privacy@nearlibrary.com from the address on your account to request deletion, a copy of your data, or a correction to anything that is wrong.
The service is served over HTTPS. There are no passwords to steal: sign-in uses a one-time code sent to your email, or Google's own sign-in. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app or by email.
